Stuðlagil Canyon Hike – Shore Excursion
Explore Stuðlagil Canyon on a guided shore excursion from Seyðisfjörður, with a hike to its striking basalt columns and a stop at Rjúkandi Waterfall.
Leaving Seyðisfjörður, we’ll travel through the countryside of East Iceland and into Jökuldalur Valley. Our first stop is Rjúkandi Waterfall, where we’ll take a short walk to enjoy the views before continuing to Stuðlagil.
At the canyon, we’ll follow the hiking trail along the east side to see the basalt formations up close. Tall columns frame the river, creating one of East Iceland’s most distinctive landscapes. There will be time to take photographs and enjoy the canyon before we walk back to the bus and return to Seyðisfjörður.
Throughout the journey, your local guide will share insights into the landscape and life in East Iceland.

The hike is approximately 2.5 km each way, totalling 5 km. The route follows a mostly flat gravel path with two short inclines and declines. Participants should be comfortable walking this distance on uneven ground.
The river’s colour varies with the season and water conditions, so turquoise water cannot be guaranteed.
