Information taken on the Icelandic information site for travel and tourism in Iceland www.visiticeland.com
New Eruption in South Iceland
The eruption in Eyjafjallajokull glacier in South Iceland that started yesterday seems to be stable.
Magma is melting its way through the icecap and causes increased water in rivers coming from the glacier. There were some floods in the rivers yesterday and water level is still higher than normal. There are restrictions for travelling on the south coast and necessary to get information on open roads.
Air traffic
Ash fall from the volcanic eruption in Eyjafjallajökull has affected air traffic in England and Scandinavia today and therefore traveling to and from Iceland. People are encouraged to monitor the news and learn about their rights if the flight is canceled.
Safety first
Travelers are urged to take all necessary precaution when travelling in Iceland. Further information on travelers safety can be found on the website
that is run by Icelandic Association for search and rescue (ICE SAR).
